Kilgetty and Begelly Blog

Kilgetty and Begelly are small villages located between the market town of Narberth and the coastal village of Saundersfoot. Both Begelly and Kilgetty enjoyed a long mining history as part of the Pembrokeshire coalfield, one of the smallest in the UK. In 1834 the railway was opened to take the coal from the Begelly pits down to Saundersfoot.

Kilgetty mainly developed as a railway service centre, after its station opening in 1866. The village has expanded since then despite the reduced role of the railway, it has several shops including a pharmacy, hairdressers, and a Co-op supermarket.

Begelly is a linear village stretching along the main A478 and home to the well-known Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo.

Attractions

Also in Kilgetty we have the famous Rib & Oyster.
